The Southern Colloquium on Rhetoric

The Southern Colloquium on Rhetoric with the generous support of SSCA's Southern Forensics Association Division will be hosting a panel discussion at SSCA's conference in Norfolk. The panel will focus on analysis of the media's presentation of the financial meltdown in the fall of 2008.

In order to focus and facilitate the discussion, a limited set of texts has been chosen. Four panelists will make very brief opening statements focusing on some aspect of this set of texts, after which the floor will be open to discussion. Those wishing to participate in the discussion are encouraged to preview the texts. The list is provided below.

The panel is scheduled for 1:30 Friday afternoon, #3402 in the convention program. Mary Stuckey (Georgia State U) will moderate. Panelists are Beth S. Bennett (U Alabama), Barbara Biesecker (U Georgia), James Darsey (Georgia State U), and Pat Gehrke (U South Carolina).
