Second SCoR Seminar - July 17, Georgia State University

The Southern Colloquium on Rhetoric will hold its second seminar on July 17 from 1 until 5pm at Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA. The topic is Psychoanalysis and Rhetoric. Mary Stuckey will host a cookout after the seminar for those who can stay. Capacity for both events is limited. Please contact Teresa Morales if you would like to attend, and let her know if you plan to join us for the seminar only or for the seminar and the cookout. As decided by the SCoR steering committee, faculty will have first option on the available places in the seminar. Spaces not claimed by faculty will be given to graduate students beginning on July 3.

A debate beween Joshua Gunn and Christian Lundberg along with a recent book by Jacques Lacan will provide our core readings. Both Josh Gunn and Chris Lundberg will be joining us for the seminar. There will be additional readings, but the readings that have been set thus far are:

Gunn, Joshua. "Refitting fantasy: psychoanalysis, subjectivity, and talking to the dead." Quarterly Journal of Speech 90.1 (Feb. 2004): 1-23
Gunn, Joshua. "On Dead Subjects: A Rejoinder to Lundberg on (a) Psychoanalytic Rhetoric." Quarterly Journal of Speech 90.4 (Nov. 2004): 501-513
Lacan, Jacques. My Teaching. Verso, 2009.
Lundberg, Christian. "The Royal Road Not Taken: Joshua Gunn's "Refitting Fantasy: Psychoanalysis, Subjectivity and Talking to the Dead" and Lacan's Symbolic Order." Quarterly Journal of Speech 90.4 (Nov. 2004): 495-500.

    Location
We will meet in room 1020, One Park Place South on the GSU campus.

Click here for driving directions to the GSU campus. For those taking MARTA, take any line to the 5 Points Station. Exit the Peachtree St exit and look to your left for the large, neon Coca-Cola sign, which is perched on a building adjacent to One Park Place South.

For navigating on campus, use the downloadable zoomable pdf campus map. There should be plenty of parking available on the G Deck (section C2 of the campus map), and there are commercial parking lots in the area, including one directly across Decatur St from One Park Place South (Peachtree and Decatur Streets). One Park Place South is #20 on the campus map, section B5.

If anyone gets lost or has any problems, you can call the Dept of Communication main office at 404.413.5600 or James Darsey at 404.931.6758.
